Each March, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) leads the celebration of Social Work Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the professionals who advocate for individuals, strengthen families, and help communities thrive. These professionals play a vital role across healthcare settings, from hospitals and hospices to schools and community organizations.
In home care, their role is especially meaningful. When families are navigating complex situations, such as caring for an aging loved one, adjusting after a hospital stay, or planning long-term support, a social work team can help guide the process with compassion and expertise. They help connect people with resources, support informed decision-making, and ensure clients receive care that respects their dignity and independence.
At Assisting Hands West Austin, we’re proud to highlight the dedicated professionals on our team who bring empathy, advocacy, and knowledge to the families we serve every day.

Why Social Work Matters in Home Care
Social work teams bring a unique perspective to home care because they focus on the whole person, not just their physical health. They consider emotional well-being, family dynamics, access to community resources, and the practical challenges that can arise when someone needs additional support at home.
For families, having a social work team involved can make navigating a complex healthcare system feel far more manageable. This team of professionals helps answer questions, guides decision-making, and advocates for clients so they receive the care and resources that best meet their needs. They also help ensure that care plans reflect what matters most to each individual and their families.
At Assisting Hands West Austin, the work of our social work team strengthens every aspect of the care we provide. Their compassion, expertise, and dedication help create a supportive environment where older adults can maintain their dignity, independence, and quality of life.
This Social Work Month, we are proud to celebrate the incredible professionals on our team and are grateful for the difference they make in the lives of the families they serve every day. Thank you for all that you do!
