As Social Work Month comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what truly defines great care.
Our recent feature in VoyageAustin Magazine highlights the journey of our owner, Emmie Knox, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). But just as important, it points to something bigger: the power of a strong, connected care team. Behind every care plan, every visit, and every moment of support is our social work team working together to make it happen.

A Foundation Built on Care and Purpose
Emmie’s path into social work was driven by a clear goal: helping people navigate complex, often overwhelming moments in their lives.
With experience in medical social work across settings like skilled nursing, hospice, and crisis intervention, she saw firsthand how challenging it can be for individuals and families to find the right support at the right time.
In 2016, she and her husband, Louis, brought that experience into something more personal. They opened Assisting Hands West Austin with a mission to provide care that is not only reliable but deeply compassionate and responsive to each client’s unique needs.
That foundation — rooted in empathy, communication, and advocacy — continues to shape everything we do today.
A Team Grounded in Social Work Values
Emmie’s story is an important part of who we are, and our team truly brings her vision to life.
When people think about home care, they often picture a single caregiver showing up to help. And while that relationship is incredibly important, it’s only a part of the story. In reality, quality care is built on collaboration.
What sets our team apart is a shared approach grounded in social work values. For every client, we see the whole person, not just their illness or disability. We provide hands-on, day-to-day support while building meaningful relationships. We stay connected with families rather than just checking in occasionally, and work tirelessly to supply them with essential area resources.
When there’s a strong team of support in place, care becomes more than a service. It becomes something you can truly depend on.
Closing Out Social Work Month
As we wrap up Social Work Month, we’re reminded that care is never just about one person. It’s about people working together with a shared purpose. Emmie’s journey is what led to the founding of Assisting Hands West Austin. Our team is what sustains it.
And for the clients and families we serve, that means something simple but powerful: you’re never navigating care alone. Contact Assisting Hands West Austin today to learn more about how we can help at (512) 999-7379 or by using the chatbox on the right.
