Dealing with chronic illness is always a struggle, both for the person living with the illness and their family. Both Vanessa and I have experienced this struggle in our own families, which is one of the reasons we opened our Assisting Hands office. Our job as caregivers is twofold. First, we assist our clients with activities of daily living so they can remain as independent as possible. Secondly, and just as importantly, we take the load off of family members. Being a family caregiver changes the relationship between the family members, often negatively. Bringing in a caring professional can help restore that relationship while ensuring that the client is safe and happy.
