Home Health Care vs Home Care

Most of the time when people hear “home care” and “home health care,” they assume that they are the same services. In reality, there are important differences. We are here to set the record straight and explain the differences between home care and home health care.

Home Health Care (Medical Care)

Home health care is different from home care in that the tasks that the caregiver performs are medical. This type of care requires approval from a doctor and care is usually administered by a registered nurse or a physical, occupational, or speech therapist. These clinical services performed in the home are generally cheaper than being in a hospital and allow the senior receiving care to comfortably live in their own home.

Some of the services a home health care company provide include:

  • Administration of medication (IVs and injections)
  • Wound care
  • Physical therapy
  • Monitoring of medical equipment
  • Pain management
  • Skilled nursing

When it comes to home health care in League City, Assisting Hands Home Care does not provide medical care.

Home Care (Non-Medical Care)

Home care or in-home care services are non-medical and primarily focus on helping seniors with day-to-day tasks. The idea with senior home care is to allow people to live in their own homes instead of having to move to a care facility. The great thing about in-home care is that the services rendered by the caregiver are custom. Some seniors might only need help for an hour or two a day to get a few chores around the house done. Others might need 24/7 care with tasks around the house like housekeeping or personal care and grooming.

Some of the services a home care agency provides include:

  • Meal preparation
  • Housekeeping
  • Personal care
  • Medication reminders
  • Companionship and friendship
  • Transportation for appointments and errands

Assisting Hands Home Care of Littleton provides non-medical senior home care. If you or a loved one is having a harder time getting around and could use some extra help around the house, we are here to help.  Please give us a call to set up a free consultation!
