Why Caregivers Are Heroes

Merriam-Webster’s definition of a hero is: “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” You’ll find other definitions that describe a hero as someone who, in the face of danger, fights through adversity with feats of courage, ingenuity, or strength.

At Assisting Hands Home Care of Littleton, we work with heroes every day: our team of trained, professional caregivers. Our staff and our clients see our caregivers unselfishly and tirelessly give of themselves every day, making a difference in individuals’ lives and helping those who want to stay at home maintain their health and independence.

What Makes Caregivers Heroes?

Caregivers are extraordinary people possessing heroic traits that enable them to skillfully assist those who need it most. The best professional caregivers typically have a mix of characteristics that include:

  • Patience
  • Strength
  • Creativity
  • Empathy
  • Ingenuity
  • Compassion
  • Integrity

Caregivers have been called the “unsung heroes of the healthcare system, the glue and the heart of healthcare.” A doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment, but it’s the caregiver who makes sure it’s carried out. As the eyes and ears for healthcare professionals and family members who can’t be there all the time, caregivers ensure that the person they’re caring for has all the support they need to stay healthy.

Each day, caregivers make sure clients eat healthily, get the rest they need, and take their medications. They assist them with bathing, dressing, and helping them avoid injuries from tripping and falling. Without caregivers, many clients wouldn’t be able to manage their daily needs or get to important appointments.

You Can Be a Caregiving Hero, Too

If you have the heart, Assisting Hands of Littleton has the opportunity. You don’t need a degree; you do need a big heart and a passion for helping others.
