Assisting Hands Travel Service

Each and every Assisting Hands Home Care franchisee is passionate about not only meeting the physical needs of their clients, but their mental and emotional needs as well.
One of our franchises has a unique story to share about individualizing services for its patients, based on their conditions and specific needs. The specific location has been omitted to protect client confidentiality.
An elderly client, who we will refer to in this post as Mr. Smith, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease six years ago.
Prior to his diagnosis, 92-year-old Mr. Smith was a very successful international businessman, and entrepreneur. Memories of those years of traveling the world have remained. Now Mr. Smith’s daily and nightly routine consists of hauling out his suitcase from the closet, shoving his passport in his pocket and bolting for the door to his house to catch the plane, ship or automobile, which he firmly believes is waiting for him.  This pattern of behavior, added to the fact that Mr. Smith is a man of large stature, standing 6’4 ” and weighing 230 lbs, proved to be a definite challenge for his 24/7 caregivers. They struggled to divert his sudden action, and behavior at any and all hours of the day and night, to keep him safe.
To mitigate the situation, we have become the “AH Travel Office.” The caregiver phones our office where someone is available to answer the phones 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Prior to each trip that Mr. Smith begins preparing for, the caregiver puts Mr. Smith on the phone with the AH Travel office reservation specialist.
The employee informs him, “The plane was grounded due to a mechanical error, the flight was delayed and rescheduled, the ship has left the port, there is bad weather due and the trip was canceled, the car service is unavailable, the reservation has been changed, etc.”
Mr. Smith thanks us. He is disappointed, but he calms down and no longer tries to run out into the street. The caregiver can then divert his attention in directions to quickly lift his spirits.
So, if you are searching for the very best individualized care and services for your loved ones, look no further than Assisting Hands Home Care offices nationwide. And, if any of you are seeking up-to-date travel information, give Assisting Hands a call!
