In-Home Care Office Makes Donation Towards Finding Alzheimer’s Cure

Assisting Hands Gulf Coast: Skilled Nursing Services, Personal Care and Companionship

TAMPA, Fla. (December 23, 2014) — The owner and president of Assisting Hands Gulf Coast, Alexis Nguyen, today pledged her support of the Alzheimer’s Association through the “Plant a Seed of Hope” donation program. Her office’s contribution will be used to fund research to find a cure for the disease that is currently seen in five million Americans and 35 million people worldwide.

“We believe this research is worthwhile and absolutely necessary,” said Nguyen. “In our capacity as in-home caregivers, we serve a growing number of families profoundly affected by Alzheimer’s disease.”

On December 9, Nguyen and Assisting Hands Gulf Coast VP of Business Development Kathleen Stasia, traveled across Old Tampa Bay from the Assisting Hands Gulf Coast office in south Tampa, to the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast chapter office in Clearwater. While there, they presented a donation check and met local association executives Chief Executive Officer Gloria T. Smith, Chief Operating Officer Chuck Albrecht, Vice President of Programs Lisa Milne and Director of Client Advocacy Peggy Macaluso.

“We are so grateful for the support of local Florida businesses,” said Smith. “Home health care providers like Assisting Hands Gulf Coast see the painful effects of Alzheimer’s on a daily basis, while caring for clients.”

The Alzheimer’s Association strives to advance the understanding of Alzheimer’s through a peer-reviewed research grant program, which has awarded over $315 million to more than 2,200 scientists since 1982. The number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s is expected to skyrocket, to as many as 16 million in the U.S. and 115 million globally, by the middle of the 21st century. An estimated 20 percent of Assisting Hands Gulf Coast’s current clients have been diagnosed with varying stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia.
