Valentine’s Activities for All Ages

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. This love-inspired holiday is the perfect inspiration for activities appropriate for children, teens, and grandparents alike. Whether you are a mother or a babysitter looking for something to occupy the younger generation, or a mother, grandchild, or caregiver to someone older possibly needing assistance, these activities offer that easy fun you may be looking for. Crafts and baked goods that will surely put love in the air, take a look at this list and start getting ready for the holiday of love.

Sweetheart Cinnamon Rolls – These are a fun and delicious way to spread some Valentine’s Day cheer for everyone. You could make these as a festive breakfast for your children, your spouse, or just about anyone you love, and anyone can be a help in the kitchen. Next time you are at the store, grab a tube of Pillsbury refrigerated flaky cinnamon rolls with icing. When you open the tube and break apart the individual rounds, unroll the rounds to look more like a strip. From here, take the two ends of the strip and bring them together to form a heart—Bake as directed. Assist where needed if you are making these with a young child or an elderly loved one, but almost everyone can do this. Once the rolls are finished baking, frost them with the icing. Top with Valentine’s Day sprinkles for some added flair. Of course, these can be made from scratch, but the premade option is still delicious!

Valentine Garlands – Garlands are all the rage right now in home décor. From the farmhouse wooden bead garland to felt balls to paper hearts, they are a simple way to add a level of festiveness to your home. And they are simple and great for all ages. Strands of wooden beads are simple and especially good for our youngsters or our older loved ones who may need a little work on their motor skills. Painting the beads and making patterns of the traditional Valentine’s Day colors will brighten up any area of your home. Next time you head out to your favorite craft store, pick up a variety of sizes of wooden beads, some pink, red, and white paint, brushes, and yarn or twine or string to string your beads on. Paint the beads, let them dry, and get to stringing. If the wooden bead look isn’t your style, felt ball garlands are becoming very popular and are just as cute. These can also be purchased in a variety of colors and sizes. Great for any holiday craft! And if you are not going to be headed to a store anytime soon, good old paper hearts strung together will do the trick and look just as cute!

Yarn Hearts – Yarn hearts are not only simple to make for a lot of different ages, but they are adorable. You can make them fill a vase, set in a decorative bowl, a hand like an ornament, or strung together for another garland style. No matter how you want to display them, you won’t be disappointed. To create these soft, cute little pieces of festive fun, you need to gather some cardboard, scissors, clear tape, a pencil, and the yarn (Valentine’s colors!). Start by tracing out a heart on the cardboard, whatever size you want for whatever you plan of using the hearts for, and then cut it out. Tape the end of your yarn to the cardboard and start wrapping in all directions. Once you have reached the desired thickness of your heart, cut the yarn and tuck the end under some previous layers of the yarn. Simple! But oh, so cute.

Festive Rice Krispie Treats™ – Who does not love a Rice Krispies Treat? They are sweet, soft, gooey, and the perfect base for any holiday treat. Grab yourself a box of Rice Krispies and follow the instructions to make the treat. Feel free to mix in some fun Valentine’s colored sugar. Once set, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut out some hearts. From here, melt some chocolate, white, milk, or dark will do, and dunk half the heart in the chocolate before the chocolate has a chance to dry; sprinkle on some toppings. Festive sprinkles, crushed Oreos, chocolate chips, coconut, a different chocolate drizzle, the possibilities are endless. Have fun with this! This is another treat that is appropriate for all ages. It is easy and can be as artistic or perfect as you want. No matter how they look, the taste will be amazing.

Chocolate Covered Treats – It’s nothing new that Valentine’s Day and chocolate go hand in hand. Chocolate-covered fruits, pretzels of all shapes and sizes, Oreos, even Fritos or potato chips, it’s all good. So next time you are at the store, grab some chocolate to melt and grab some items to dunk, and don’t forget the toppings. Sprinkles, nuts, coconut shavings, chocolate chips, crushed cookies or candies, or another flavor chocolate to drizzle, as stated in the previous paragraph, the possibilities are endless. What is great about an activity like this is that anyone can do this and have fun. Melting the chocolate is the trickiest part, but there are tons of tips on the internet for getting that smooth perfect melt. You can also take your finished products and wrap them up for gifts for your loved ones and friends. Homemade gifts are more than just a little appreciated.

The best part about most of these activities is that they can be adapted for other holidays. Hearts become shamrocks which then become bunnies and then stars, this list of activities can take you and your family members and friends through the whole year.
