Meet our Digital Marketing and Office Support team member, Abby! Since joining Assisting Hands Home Care – Cave Creek in August 2022, Abby has taken on a variety of roles supporting both the office and our caregivers, from HR and recruiting to marketing and communications. Here’s her full interview about her experience and what she enjoys most about being part of the team.
Since you started with Assisting Hands Home Care Cave Creek in August 2022, what’s the biggest thing you’ve learned about in-home care for seniors?
Before working here, I was a caregiver for children with disabilities, so while caregiving was a field I was familiar with, it in a lot of ways was a whole new world for me. The biggest thing I’ve learned has been about the risks involved with aging and how to prevent them, along with hearing all of the amazing stories our clients have shared with me. From a business perspective, I’ve realized how important it is to have reliable, consistent, and responsible caregivers who are willing to help out when families are not able to or need extra assistance (especially in our area, which hasn’t had as many options for care as other areas of Phoenix may have had).
Working alongside your parents in a business is unique. What’s been the best part about being part of a family-run company?
I’ve loved that from the beginning there was an inherent level of trust between myself and the business owners, Kelly and Andy, because of the fact that we are family. I’ve had to work hard to ensure that I live up to their standards, but those standards are the ones they instilled in me from a young age. Even with something as simple as cleaning the house, I was taught to finish the job with attention to detail so you don’t have to do it twice. I couldn’t ask for better people to be a part of this journey with.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the office team?
I’ve loved being part of a team that cares as much about the work we do as I do. We all feel proud of what we accomplish to make our caregivers’ and clients’ lives easier. At the same time, we also hold each other accountable when something needs to be adjusted, which makes us stronger as a team.
You have “worn a lot of hats” in this company, from Hiring and Recruiting, to HR, to managing the online presence. What is your favorite role that you have filled so far?
I have a special spot in my heart for all of the jobs I’ve done, from answering the phones and scheduling our first clients to looking for new caregivers to join our team. Right now, I really enjoy running orientations and managing the newsletters and social media. But I also loved conducting interviews! Getting to meet new people, helping them feel comfortable, and giving them the chance to put their best foot forward was very rewarding.
