Who We Are

As seniors age, holding on to independence can become harder, and families are often left wondering how to help without taking that independence away. At Assisting Hands Home Care, we understand that struggle, and we provide non-medical home care in Melrose Park, Westchester, IL, and the surrounding Cook County communities that helps seniors stay safe and independent at home.

What sets us apart is how we build our team. We hire caregivers for their character first, then their skill because warmth cannot be taught, but skills can. Every caregiver then completes extensive in-house training led by our own specialists, including a fall-prevention specialist, a dementia communication specialist, a hospice specialist, and a physical therapist. The result is care that is both genuinely compassionate and truly competent. Every engagement begins with a free in-home consultation, so we can meet you and your loved one, understand their needs, and build a complete care plan and schedule around them. Whether your family needs occasional help or full-time support, we create a plan that fits your life.

Assisting Hands has been a godsend. My 90-year-old mother is very independent, but after she suffered a fall at home, our family decided she needed daytime care while we were away. I contacted several agencies, but none impressed me with their services until a friend referred me to Assisting Hands. I called Thomaie and immediately felt her genuine concern and empathy for our situation. She worked diligently to find the right fit for us, always answering my calls and questions promptly. Thomaie also provided regular updates and reassurance that everything would be fine.

My mother has truly found her match made in heaven. Rather than simply having someone stay with her, she now looks forward to visits from her caregiver, who has become a true friend and part of our family. As my mother’s memory begins to decline, our caregiver’s experience has been invaluable in helping us navigate this new stage. I cannot express how incredibly thankful I am to Thomaie and the team at Assisting Hands Home Care.

I am so fortunate to have found Assisting Hands. Thomaie, the owner, called me within minutes of my request to seek a caregiver for my mom when her safety and wellbeing became a concern this fall. She called me in the late evening on a Saturday to find out more about my mom and my family’s needs and was able to come out the Monday before Thanksgiving to meet my mom. Thomaie and Christina were diligent in finding a caregiver that matched our needs and would be a good companion for my mom. Our journey with this disease has been more of a rollercoaster than we were expecting, but despite all of the changes to our needs, where my mom was staying, and when we were looking for last-minute help, the team pulled through for us. Christina even came herself one afternoon to stay with my mom when the caregiver we were working with had an emergency and was unable to make it. You know you will always be covered with Assisting Hands.

When my mom was staying with me prior to going into memory care, we were paired with Sheleandra, who was truly wonderful to have caring for my mom in my home. She would reach out to me throughout the day to check in and ask questions, making sure my mom was comfortable. She was respectful of my hectic schedule and arrived early and even stayed late to complete notes and make sure the transition for my mom was smooth. Not only do they care for the families they serve in the home, but Thomaie personally visited my mom during a hospital stay and wants to visit my mom in memory care. We don’t know what the future holds or how long my mom will be in memory care, but we know there will be help waiting for us if the time comes when we decide being home is what is best for my mom. Assisting Hands truly cares and understands. I fully trust them with my family.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does Medicare pay for in-home care services?
How quickly can care start?
Are your caregivers background-checked and trained?
What is the difference between assisted living and in-home care?

Does Medicare pay for in-home care services?

Medicare does not pay for non-medical home care. It may cover the medical version of home care, also called “home healthcare,” in certain situations, which can include skilled nursing or physical therapy. It does not cover non-medical personal care services such as companionship, meal preparation, grooming, or light housekeeping. Our team is happy to walk you through your payer options, including Private Pay and Long-Term Care Insurance.

How quickly can care start?

We pride ourselves on same-day responsiveness. When you call, you reach a real person and we move quickly to schedule your free in-home assessment and get care started, including on short notice after a hospital or rehab discharge.

Are your caregivers background-checked and trained?

Yes. Every caregiver is licensed, bonded, insured, and passes an extensive background check before joining our team. We hire for character first, then provide extensive in-house training led by our own fall-prevention, dementia communication, hospice, and physical therapy specialists, so you get both warmth and real competence.

What is the difference between assisted living and in-home care?

Assisted living means moving your loved one into a housing facility or community. In-home care brings caregiving services to your loved one in the comfort of their own home, which is ideal for seniors who prefer to age in place. Assisting Hands Home Care provides licensed, insured, and bonded in-home care built on trust, compassion, and connection.
