An Evening of Connection, Education, and Appreciation
At Assisting Hands Home Care Batavia, we are proud to support the caregivers in our community who dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to helping their loved ones every day. On the evening of May 29th, we had the honor of sponsoring a special educational event for caregivers at Aurora Senior Services.
As part of the evening, we provided a delicious pasta bar dinner from Olive Garden, along with a sweet spread of desserts that everyone enjoyed. It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere where caregivers had the chance to connect, share stories, and feel supported.
Sharing Our Mission and Services
During the event, we shared a presentation about Assisting Hands—who we are, the services we offer, and how we strive to be a dependable resource for caregivers and families in our area. We recognize how overwhelming caregiving can be and reminded attendees that it’s okay to ask for help. Whether it’s respite care, 24-hour home care, dementia care or ongoing support for a loved one’s changing needs, our trained and compassionate caregivers are here to step in whenever needed.
Learning Through the GEMS® Dementia Care Model
The evening also featured an engaging presentation on Teepa Snow’s GEMS® Brain Change Model, a unique and person-centered approach to dementia care. The GEMS model categorizes the progression of dementia into six “gemstone” brain states—each with its own characteristics, strengths, and challenges. Rather than focusing on what someone can no longer do, this approach highlights remaining abilities and encourages meaningful engagement.
This topic sparked a heartfelt and lively discussion among attendees, who shared their personal experiences and insights about caring for loved ones with dementia. It was an uplifting reminder of the importance of education, empathy, and community when navigating the journey of caregiving.
We’re Here to Help
We’re thankful to everyone who attended and participated in the event, and we look forward to continuing to serve and support caregivers throughout Batavia, Aurora, and the surrounding communities.
