The baby boomer generation includes more than 70 million veterans who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Many of those veterans are reaching retirement age and need home care so they can age in place in their homes. If you or a loved one is a veteran, you might qualify for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits that can help pay for home health care. VA home health care can cover the cost of home care for the veteran and their spouse.
Assisting Hands Home Care provides VA elderly care services for veterans in Batavia, Aurora, St Charles, Bartlett, Geneva, IL, and the surrounding areas who are eligible for VA benefits. We can provide excellent home care services for veterans as an approved provider of VA home-based primary care. Contact our representatives at Assisting Hands Home Care to learn more about our VA home care program and how it can help you or a loved one pay for home care.
Applying for VA Elderly Care
If you or a loved one is a veteran and in need of home care services, you must first apply for medical benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Once you are approved for VA benefits, they can cover the cost of home health care and respite care from our caregivers at Assisting Hands.
Our caregivers provide quality, compassionate care to help veterans who need assistance to live safely in their homes. We get to know the unique needs of our clients and form a comprehensive care plan that covers their specific needs. Our VA elderly care services may consist of help with activities of daily living (ADLs), and other necessary activities around the home including meal preparation, transportation, and light housekeeping.
We offer the following VA home care programs for eligible veterans:
VA Home Health Aid (HHA)/ Home Health Program
Our VA Home Health Aide program allows eligible veterans to receive up to 12 hours of elderly care per week. Those who are eligible for this program must also complete an assessment for geriatric extended care (GEC) from a registered nurse (RN), social worker (SW), and medical doctor (MD).
Those applying for this program must also meet one of the following:
- Significant cognitive impairment
- Dependency with 3 or more activities of daily living (ADLs)
VA Respite Program
If you or your loved ones receive care from a family caregiver, you can get respite care services through our VA home care program. Our caregivers will come to the home to provide care at scheduled times and allow the family caregiver to take some time off. Those applying for this program must complete an evaluation from a medical doctor, registered nurse, and social worker and meet one of the following:
- Significant cognitive impairment
- Dependency with 3 or more ADLs
