On Tuesday, May 6th, Assisting Hands Batavia had the privilege of co-hosting a special event for Veterans and their families at the Aurora Senior Services Center. In partnership with First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, the afternoon brought together Veterans, spouses, and loved ones for a meaningful and informative experience.
Educating Veterans on Their Benefits
The event featured two expert-led educational presentations. Our team at Assisting Hands shared helpful information during Veteran Benefits 101, a session focused on understanding the types of non-medical home care and respite services available to Veterans. We also explained the application process and common questions related to accessing these valuable resources.
Special Guest Speaker from the North Aurora Veterans Clinic
A highlight of the day was welcoming Tony Grego, a Social Worker from the North Aurora Veterans Clinic. He spoke with attendees about how he can personally assist with applying for various benefits, including home care services, medical equipment, and even chair lifts. His insights were both informative and empowering for families navigating the system.
Understanding Palliative vs. Hospice Care
First Health Hospice and Palliative Care delivered an enlightening presentation on the key differences between Palliative and Hospice Care, how these services are accessed, and what coverage options are available. Many attendees found clarity and reassurance in learning more about these important topics.
The room was filled with great energy—attendees were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and truly appreciated the time and care put into the event. A delicious lunch was served, and several raffle prizes added to the fun and fellowship of the afternoon.
It was a rewarding day for everyone involved. We’re grateful to have shared this time with our local Veteran community and look forward to hosting more events like this in the near future.
