Home Care Aide: Seniors Helping Seniors

July 25, 2020Assisting HandsBlog, Senior Care

home care aide: seniors helping seniorsThe senior in your life might have friends that need to having a home care agency to support and assist them. Instead, he or she is healthy and wants to assist other seniors. Welcome to aging in the 21st century.

How Seniors Can Help Seniors

In-home services for seniors are becoming more popular because care aides provide a variety of services to the elderly from the comfort of home. Your healthy, cognitive parent is capable of providing many of these same services to other seniors in need. While, your mom or dad may not need personal assistance, they may need companionship, extra income and a chance to get out of the house and make a difference in someone’s life.

Your mother still does her shopping, but may have a neighbor who no longer can get to the store. This is a service she can provide for her neighbor/friend while giving herself an additional purpose in life. It is not unusual for seniors to take on the role of caretaker for a loved one or neighbor, or as a new career late in life. The opportunity to provide home care provides many seniors like your mother or dad to show genuine compassion to other aging individuals as they hope they will be provided some day.

Senior Caregivers Become Recipients

Senior care workers often become recipients of home care themselves as they continue through the aging process.  They expressed their needs and requirements during their tenure when working with senior care agencies, which often makes the transition from care provider to client smoother.

Some of the home care services your parent may have provided may have included: companionship, shopping, light housekeeping, cooking, transportation, social activities and daily errands. When your parent transitions to receiving care instead of providing it, they may require those services including personal care, and possibly dementia or memory care.
