We are so excited to announce our caregiver of the month for May, Sandra Reyes. Sandra is a medical assistant and has been caregiving for the last 5 years. When she graduated from her Medical Assistant Program she wanted to spend a few years gaining hands-on skills before pursuing her career. Sandra comments that she absolutely fell in love with caregiving, and for the first time in her life, actually enjoyed going to work. Those words shine through in the work she does for Assisting Hands Home Care, exactly why we chose her to be our caregiver of the month. Sandra shares the vision of Assisting Hands Home Care, by caring for others as if they were her own family. I’ll see her rearranging her schedule, finding childcare for her two boys, or just popping by for a quick tuck-in to help out an Arlington Heights family. You get the sense that Sandra will accept an assignment because she genuinely wants to help, not because it’s her job. Sandra shows us that the rewards you get from caregiving are far greater when you put your heart into your work.
What advice does Sandra have for brand new caregivers? “I would tell them to open your heart to the clients you care for. Show them that you care and you’ll be good at your job and be able to make a difference. The clients and their families are in need of your services, and it’s a joy to see they praise you on the job you do so let the family know that their loved one is in good hands and treat their loved one as if you would your own grandparents.”
Sandra is right – families will feel a sense of comfort in seeing that you truly care about the well being of the person they love most.
In the future Sandra hopes to either partner or open her own caregiving agency with a handful of the best caregivers or work with children with mental disabilities at their homes.
When she’s not caregiving, Sandra likes to watch a good movie with her favorite food, take a walk on a trail, spend time with her two boys, and of course, enjoys a little me-time when she’s not caring for others.
We’ll say bon voyage to Sandra as she travels abroad for the summer, but you can call on her for caregiving services next fall when she returns!
