Assisting Hands is proud to announce our April caregiver of the month, Barbara!
Barbara is a caregiver who is warm, compassionate, light-hearted, and loving. While those qualities tell you who she is on the inside, we can’t forget to mention that she is a skilled caretaker, who cares effortlessly for her clients’ physical and emotional needs. Barbara’s first career was in early childhood education in Poland. She later went back to school to become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and worked in a skilled nursing facility. Barbara came to us out of a desire to provide more one-on-one assistance in the home. If her caregiving skills and compassionate nature were not enough, Barbara’s clients have a special treat out there and that is that Barbara is an EXCELLENT cook who keeps her clients’ bellies full with home cooked soups and other healthy and tasty dishes!
Barbara says that she likes to care for people because she feels they need her to help. At the same time, she feels they give so much more back to her. In fact, Barbara says she learns something every day from her clients. Working as a caregiver helps her understand what her mother and family will go through when they get older. Barbara believes in the good of everyone and feels her interactions with people on a daily basis are something to learn from and enjoy.
To the new caregivers out there, Barbara says don’t give up. “Sometimes it is difficult but remember you are making their lives easier. Work hard and don’t be afraid; remember everyone has bad days. The best policy is to leave your troubles behind and go to each client fresh and open.”
In her free time Barbara likes to read a good book in a comfy spot at home or watch Polish movies with her family. Barbara stays active by swimming as she has fond memories of being back in Poland in her small village soaking up the sun and water. In five years, Barbara sees herself here with people who need her. She hopes to be in a house and to be able to see everything Chicago has to offer. Barbara wants to continue her work and bring smiles and laughter to everyone she meets 🙂.
