Our caregiver of the month is the fabulous Abidemio Balogun! Abby has been interested in healthcare since she was a child. She was inspired by her mother’s passion for the field and she aspires to be a nurse practitioner in the future.
I remember when Abby walked into our office with her mother. They each had such a unique perspective on care and caregiving – the daughter who is inspired by her mother’s work is always a special find. She has that instinctual knowledge for caregiving combined with the compassion for doing the job for a greater purpose.
In Abby’s words, “I love what I do, and my goal is to treat every client as my friend and to treat them the way I would want someone to treat my mother or father if they were caring for them.” Abby’s attitude toward caregiving aligns exactly with our values at Assisting Hands. She knows and practices the importance of treating our clients with the upmost respect. As she says, “It is important to empathize and not sympathize.”
Abby also knows how important it is to find the right fit; for a caregiver to find the right job and for a family to find the right caregiver. Luckily, “I absolutely love love love (times infinity) working for Assisting Hands because I feel appreciated here and I also feel as though I am part of a team of healthcare workers who absolutely love what they do, and this makes me really happy.” In her free time, Abby also loves reading and writing!
Abby’s client’s family knows as well as we do what a dedicated and joyful caregiver Abby is:
Abby is a special gift! When Abby delivers care to our mom she is not only a very committed and responsible person, but a very compassionate human being. Abby engages easily with our mom and provides her with love, companionship, encouragement, and support. Our mom is extremely happy when Abby is by her side and our family is extremely happy knowing Abby is providing our mom with tremendous care.
Abby is the kind of person who is dependable, hardworking, qualified, and arrives each day with a smile on her face. I really appreciate that she gets what it means to be part of a team at Assisting Hands and shares in the little joys around our office. She was very excited to receive the award of caregiver of the month (she told me she was jumping up and down in the rain when she found out) . We would like to keep her on board forever, but wish her good luck when she moves on to her career in healthcare.
