We have compiled some of our favorite senior-friendly walking spots in Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines. It’s easy, it’s free, and you just might enjoy this kind of exercise. We have hidden gems right here in your own backyard – you’re never too old to stop exploring!

What the benefits of walking for seniors?
Did you know that a short, regular walk offers lots of big benefits for seniors?
- Improves mental health: exercise gets the blood flowing, boosts those happy endorphins that reduce anxiety and improve mood. We promise you will sleep better at night after a nice walk during the day.
- Affordable (usually freeJ). Some of the best things in life are free! No need for a gym membership or special trainer. Everyone can reap the benefits of a walk outside.
- Can Reduce Pain: Walking can strengthen and stretch the abdominal and back muscles, which often help with pain relief.
- Lowers Blood Sugar: A short walk around town with your caregiver after lunch can help reduce that spike in blood sugar after eating.
