Happy Mother’s Day!

May 8, 2022Alzheimer's & Dementia, Caregiver, Elder Care, Exceptional Service, Healthy Aging, Holiday, In Home Care, Nutrition & Wellness, Senior Careskoh

In the United States, Mother’s Day is a holiday observed every second Sunday of May honoring the sacrifices mothers make for their children.

Did you know that the American celebration of Mother’s Day began in 1908 by a pioneer lady named Anna Jarvis and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914?

Jarvis would later denounce the commercialization of Mother’s day and spend the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar to preserve the purpose and authenticity of the holiday.

Today, while Mother’s Day celebrations vary, traditionally Mother’s Day involves presenting mothers and grandmothers with flowers, cards, meals, or other gifts that show deep appreciation and love towards our maternal figures and loved ones.

It’s an occasion to have a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner meal with mom or nana be it breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

Maybe even an afternoon coffee or tea at a garden, park, or beach.

More Ideas

Here are more low-cost or no-cost ideas but memorable ways to celebrate mom:.

  • Give mom some of your free time.
  • Take mom for a walk.
  • Binge-watch a favorite TV show together.
  • Do a chore for your mom.
  • Take mom out to lunch.
  • Or cook mom a special lunch.
  • Give mom a homemade coupon book.
  • Give her a sentimental gift such as a concert or show.

Our team at Assisting Hands® wishes every mother and grandmother a joyous and blessed Mother’s day 2022.
