How Strawberries Can Lower Alzheimer’s and Dementia Risks

Let’s take a deeper dive into how strawberries can lower Alzheimer’s and Dementia risks.

strawberries lower Alzheimer’s dementia

Researchers found in a six year study that participants did not develop Alzheimer or dementia with the frequency of strawberry consumption.

Strawberries have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can improve neuronal function and cognition.

Vitamin C, anthocyanidins such as pelargonidin, and total flavonoids – all are associated with lowering Alzheimer’s or dementia risk were found in strawberries.

A flavonoid called fisetin can work against neurodegenerative diseases linked to aging such as Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Moreover, fisetin found in strawberries can even affect your skin health, making you look younger.

At Rush University, Puja Agarwal and her team analyzed data collected for the Rush Memory and Aging Project (MAP) between 2004 and 2018.

Agarwal’s team found that for every one serving increase in strawberry consumption, there was a 24% reduced risk of Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Strawberries Help Lower Risk of Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Overall, participants consuming one or more servings of strawberries per week had a 34% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia when compared to those consuming none or less than once per month.

In addition, the Nurses’ Health Study revealed that strawberry consumption, anthocyanidins, and total flavonoid intake all correlate with slower cognitive decline.

Clearly, consuming strawberries is a great way to boost health and lower Alzheimer’s or dementia for you or your loved one.

And they also taste good!

Strawberries serve as a great snack and a key ingredient in a variety of creative recipes.

So share some strawberries with your loved ones and help them lower the risk of Alzheimer’s or dementia with this little fruit!
