Home Caregivers Share in the Laughter: It’s the Best Medicine

June 5, 2015msoltisBlog

home caregivers, laughterLaughter is the best medicine. Research indicates that when you laugh the brain releases endorphins that are a natural pain reliever. Laughing with friends is a social interaction and often bonds people together. Instead of laughing at each other, it is a combined laughter. Laughter is an activity for people of any age.

Seniors enjoy countless senior home care activities with their home caregivers that include laughter. Laughter Yoga is one possible option. This combined format has been proven to improve short-term memory and provide better brain function. Laughter Yoga combines uncontrollable laughing with breathing. The concept is that you can begin to laugh just by making eye contact with someone. It’s almost like flirting in a childlike way. In most cases, this develops into contagious laughter. The process entails laughing for 15 minutes and breaking to focus on breathing and feeling the breath from your abdomen.

Laughter Yoga may reduce stress and elevate your mood. Something simple and yet as powerful as a deep, uncontrollable laugh can take you from sad to happy. You may find a renewed source of energy with health improvements. As the laughter releases your endorphins, it just might be making positive changes in your life.

Home caregivers are wonderful guides to add humor and laughter into what may be a dull or routine day. Storytelling, music, dance and pets often can be funny subjects and can provide smiles and laughter to reduce physical and emotional pain. Laughter is the best medicine and it’s free. Home caregivers enable you to spend your days laughing and focusing on the positive effects of that joy.
