We have an Ice Cream Social Coming up soon!
We have had two previous ones before this one and they both went great! We had one in May and our most recent one in July. Both events were filled with seniors dancing to the live music performer, and enjoying some sweet treats provided by us! We brought a various amount of cookies, and we also brought the ice cream for our seniors to enjoy. We answered any of their questions about Home Care as well. Our next coming Ice Cream Social is going to be held on August 29th, 2024 at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Be sure to join us there!
Here are a few fun end of summer tips for our Caregivers and Clients!
Activities to Enjoy Together
Summer is a perfect time for caregivers and seniors to engage in enjoyable activities that strengthen their bond and enhance well-being. Simple outdoor activities such as walking in the park, gardening, or having a picnic can be refreshing and enjoyable. For those who prefer staying indoors, consider activities like baking summer treats, doing puzzles, or engaging in arts and crafts. These activities not only provide entertainment but also stimulate the mind and promote physical health.
Hydration and Nutrition Tips
Staying hydrated is crucial during the summer months, especially for seniors who are more susceptible to dehydration. Encourage drinking plenty of water and consuming hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges. It’s also important to maintain a balanced diet rich in nutrients. Prepare light and nutritious meals such as salads, grilled vegetables, and lean proteins. Smoothies made from fresh fruits and vegetables can be a delicious and hydrating option. Keep an eye on their fluid intake and ensure they drink water regularly throughout the day.
Sun Safety Guidelines
Protecting seniors from the sun’s harmful rays is essential. Encourage wearing wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved clothing to shield their skin. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating. Schedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, to avoid peak sun hours. Creating shaded areas in the yard or using umbrellas can also help reduce sun exposure.
