Home care in Alamo Ranch often starts with a family that moved out to the far west side for a newer home, then realized a parent needs help close by. Maybe Mom moved in with you. Maybe Dad lives a few streets away and is not safe alone all day anymore, or a hospital stay just ended. Assisting Hands Home Care Northeast San Antonio sends trained, background-checked caregivers into Alamo Ranch homes for a few hours, overnight or around the clock.
Our office is in Bulverde, at 32685 US Hwy 281 N, Suite 180. Alamo Ranch is about 40 minutes away by Loop 1604 and US 281. Our care is non-medical: bathing, meals, getting around safely, errands and company. Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN, our co-owner, plans your loved one’s care, and care can often start within a day or two.

Care after a hospital or rehab stay in Alamo Ranch
The first days home are often the hardest. Alamo Ranch families are often coming home from Methodist Hospital Westover Hills, which opened in 2024 just down the loop, from CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital Westover Hills, or after a short rehab stay at Mystic Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on the northwest side.
A caregiver can be there when your loved one walks in the door, with meals, bathing, a steady arm on the way to the bathroom and rides to follow-up visits. Our caregivers work alongside the home health nurse or therapist the doctor orders. They do not replace them. If you can, call us before discharge day, and read about our help after a hospital stay for Alamo Ranch families.
Nancy brings a nurse’s eye to these homecomings. She spent more than 30 years at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, caring for stroke and brain injury patients in the Neuro ICU, and she taught nursing students their hospital clinicals.
Home care across Alamo Ranch, Culebra to Alamo Ranch Parkway
Alamo Ranch is one of the big master-planned communities on San Antonio’s far west side. We care for families all over it: in the neighborhoods off Alamo Ranch Parkway, along Culebra Road, near the shops and restaurants by the loop, and in the newer sections farther west.
We plan around how Alamo Ranch moves. Traffic on Culebra and the loop shapes when a caregiver should leave for a morning shift, and we build that into the schedule. If your neighborhood has a gate or an entry code, the code goes on the care plan. If the bedrooms are upstairs, we look at the stairs together at the first visit. Parents who like to get out can keep going: a caregiver can take them to the shops on Alamo Ranch Parkway, a slow walk around the neighborhood, or church on Sunday.
What home care visits in Alamo Ranch cover
Many Alamo Ranch families start with a few hours a week and add time as trust builds. A visit can include:
- Bathing, dressing and toileting through personal care for Alamo Ranch parents
- Meals cooked at home while you are at work and tidying, laundry and clean sheets
- Groceries, errands, rides to appointments and medication reminders
- Conversation, puzzles and companionship during the workday
When memory loss is part of the picture, our dementia home care in Alamo Ranch keeps each day calm and familiar. If you are the family caregiver and need a break, respite care for Alamo Ranch families gives you real time off. For someone who should not be alone at night, we offer overnight care so you can sleep, and round the clock shifts when needed. When a hospice team is involved, we add hands for personal care and company.

How Alamo Ranch families pay for care
Most families pay us directly for the hours they schedule. Other ways families cover home care in Alamo Ranch:
- Long-term care insurance. Our Certified Long-Term Care Advocate can help you start using a long-term care policy at home.
- VA Aid and Attendance. Veterans and surviving spouses may be able to put their own VA Aid and Attendance funds toward care at home. Troy “Doc” Wilch, our co-owner and a Navy Hospital Corpsman, can explain how it works.
- Medicare GUIDE respite. For a loved one with dementia on Original Medicare, we are an approved respite provider for PocketRN’s GUIDE program, and we help with the paperwork. Read how GUIDE respite can help a dementia caregiver.
Original Medicare does not pay for ongoing help with bathing, meals or company at home. We are glad to talk through your options on the first call.
