Home Care in Cibolo, TX

Home care in Cibolo often starts with a busy family. Maybe you moved here for the schools and a newer house, and then a parent moved in with you or close by. Now Mom needs help bathing, or Dad is coming home from the hospital and someone has to be there during the workday. Assisting Hands Home Care Northeast San Antonio sends trained, background-checked caregivers into Cibolo homes for a few hours, overnight or around the clock.

Our office is in Bulverde, at 32685 US Hwy 281 N, Suite 180. Cibolo is about 40 minutes away by FM 3009 and FM 1863. Our care is non-medical: bathing, meals, getting around safely, errands and company. Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN, our co-owner, plans your loved one’s care, and care can often start within a day or two.

Care after a hospital or rehab stay in Cibolo

The first days home are often the hardest. Cibolo families are often coming home from Baptist Neighborhood Hospital just over the line in Schertz, from Methodist Hospital Northeast in Live Oak, or after a short rehab stay at TruCare Living Centers on Retama Parkway in Selma.

A caregiver can be there when your loved one walks in the door, with meals, bathing, a steady arm on the way to the bathroom and rides to follow-up visits. Our caregivers work alongside the home health nurse or therapist the doctor orders. They do not replace them. If you can, call us before discharge day, and read about our home care after a hospital stay for Cibolo parents.

Nancy brings a nurse’s eye to these homecomings. She spent more than 30 years at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, caring for stroke and brain injury patients in the Neuro ICU, and she taught nursing students their hospital clinicals.

Home care across Cibolo, Main Street to Cibolo Valley Drive

Cibolo has grown fast. It went from about 15,000 people in 2010 to more than 32,000 in 2020, and most of it sits in Guadalupe County on the north side of Cibolo Creek. We care for families all over town: near City Hall and the old commercial blocks of Main Street, around Niemietz Park and Byron P. Steele II High School, and in the newer subdivisions along Cibolo Valley Drive and Borgfeld Road.

We plan around how Cibolo lives. School traffic on FM 1103 and FM 78 shapes when a caregiver should arrive for a morning shift. If your subdivision has a gate, the code goes on the care plan. If the bedrooms are upstairs, we look at the stairs together at the first visit. Parents who like to get out can keep going: a caregiver can take them to Veterans Memorial Park on Cibolo Valley Drive for a slow walk, to church, or to lunch on Main Street.

What home care visits in Cibolo cover

Many Cibolo families start with a few hours a week and add time as trust builds. A visit can include:

  • Bathing, dressing and toileting through personal care in Cibolo homes
  • Meals made at home with your parent and light cleaning for a safer house
  • Groceries, errands, rides to appointments and medication reminders
  • Card games, music and company while the family is at work

When memory loss is part of the picture, our dementia caregivers for Cibolo families keep each day calm and familiar. If you are the family caregiver and need a break, respite care in Cibolo gives you real time off. When someone should not be alone at all, 24-hour home care in shifts keeps a caregiver in the house. When a hospice team is involved, we add hands for personal care and company.

Getting started in 3 steps

  1. Call us at (210) 405-4059. Tell us about your loved one and what has gotten harder at home. We will answer your questions and set up a time to visit.
  2. A free in-home visit with Nancy, our RN owner. Nancy comes to your Cibolo home, gets to know your loved one and listens to what your family needs. Then she writes a care plan with you.
  3. Care can often start within a day or two. Help can be a few hours, overnight or around the clock. If needs change, we change the plan with you.

How Cibolo families pay for care

Most families pay us directly for the hours they schedule. Other ways families cover home care in Cibolo:

  • Long-term care insurance. Our Certified Long-Term Care Advocate can help you work a long-term care insurance policy for home care.
  • VA Aid and Attendance. JBSA-Randolph is close by, so ask us about this if your parent served. Veterans and surviving spouses may be able to put their own VA Aid and Attendance for home care toward the cost, and Troy “Doc” Wilch, our co-owner and a Navy Hospital Corpsman, can explain how it works.
  • Medicare GUIDE respite. For a loved one with dementia on Original Medicare, we are an approved respite provider for PocketRN’s GUIDE program, and we help with the paperwork. See how GUIDE respite helps families.

Original Medicare does not pay for ongoing help with bathing, meals or company at home. We are glad to talk through your options on the first call.

Who oversees care in Cibolo

Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN, co-owner and Director of Nursing, meets each family at the free in-home visit, writes the care plan and oversees the caregivers who carry it out. After a fall, a new diagnosis or a hospital stay, she changes the plan with you. Troy “Doc” Wilch, co-owner, is a Navy Hospital Corpsman and Marine veteran.

Every caregiver is background-checked, and we are bonded and insured. Assisting Hands Home Care Northeast San Antonio is licensed by the State of Texas, license #023668. Every Cibolo visit is scheduled and supervised by our Bulverde office.
