Home Care in Garden Ridge, TX

Home care in Garden Ridge usually begins with a quiet worry. Mom still loves her house and her yard, but the stairs are getting harder. Dad came home from the hospital and needs more help than the family can give between work and school runs. Assisting Hands Home Care Northeast San Antonio sends trained, background-checked caregivers into Garden Ridge homes for a few hours, overnight or around the clock.

Our office is in Bulverde, at 32685 US Hwy 281 N, Suite 180. Garden Ridge is about 25 minutes away by FM 3009 and FM 1863. Our care is non-medical: bathing, meals, getting around safely, errands and company. Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN, our co-owner, plans your loved one’s care, and care can often start within a day or two.

Care after a hospital or rehab stay in Garden Ridge

The first week home is often the hardest week. Garden Ridge families tend to come home from Methodist Hospital Northeast on Judson Road in Live Oak, from Resolute Health Hospital on Creekside Crossing in New Braunfels, or after a short rehab stay at TruCare Living Centers on Retama Parkway in Selma.

For a fall or a sudden change at night, many neighbors use Baptist Neighborhood Hospital in Schertz, right off the interstate.

When your loved one walks back in the door, a caregiver can be there with meals, bathing, a steady arm on the way to the bathroom and rides to follow-up visits. Our caregivers work alongside the home health nurse or therapist the doctor orders. They do not replace them. Call before discharge day if you can, and read how our hospital to home help for the first weeks works.

Nancy brings a nurse’s eye to these homecomings. She spent more than 30 years at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, caring for stroke and brain injury patients in the Neuro ICU, and she taught nursing students their hospital clinicals.

Home care across Garden Ridge, Municipal Parkway to the caverns

We care for families all over this small Comal County city, from the streets around City Hall and Garden Ridge Elementary on Municipal Parkway to the homes near Davenport High School on FM 3009. We also drive up Natural Bridge Caverns Road, past the turn for Bracken Cave Preserve, to the homes farther out.

Garden Ridge has its own rhythm, and we plan around it. If your house sits back on a long driveway or a wooded lot, the best way in, the porch light and any gate code go on the care plan. Deer on the road at dusk shape when a caregiver leaves for an evening shift. If the laundry room or a bedroom is up a few steps, we look at those steps together at the first visit. Parents who still like to get out can keep going: a caregiver can drive them to church, the pharmacy or a visit with an old friend in town.

When family visits and takes the grandkids to Natural Bridge Caverns just up the road, a caregiver can stay home with a parent who would rather rest that afternoon.

What home care visits in Garden Ridge cover

Most Garden Ridge families start with a few hours a week and add time as trust builds. A visit can include:

  • Bathing, dressing and toileting through our help with personal care at home in Garden Ridge
  • Home-cooked meals your parent actually wants to eat and light housekeeping that keeps the kitchen safe
  • Groceries, errands, rides to appointments and medication reminders
  • Card games, walks around the block and companionship for a parent home alone all day

When memory loss is part of the picture, our dementia care caregivers in Garden Ridge keep days calm and familiar. If you are the family caregiver and need a break, respite care for Garden Ridge families gives you real time off. For someone who should not be alone after dark, we offer overnight care with a caregiver awake through the night. When a hospice team is involved, we add hands for personal care and company.

Getting started in 3 steps

  1. Call us at (210) 405-4059. Tell us about your loved one and what has gotten harder at home. We will answer your questions and set up a time to visit.
  2. A free in-home visit with Nancy, our RN owner. Nancy comes to your Garden Ridge home, gets to know your loved one and listens to what your family needs. Then she writes a care plan with you.
  3. Care can often start within a day or two. Help can be a few hours, overnight or around the clock. If needs change, we change the plan with you.

How Garden Ridge families pay for care

Most families pay us directly for the hours they schedule. Other ways families cover home care in Garden Ridge:

  • Long-term care insurance. Our Certified Long-Term Care Advocate can help you work through the paperwork on a long-term care policy claim.
  • VA Aid and Attendance. JBSA-Randolph is only a few miles away, so ask us about this if your parent served. Veterans and surviving spouses may be able to put their own VA Aid and Attendance pension toward care at home, and Troy “Doc” Wilch, our co-owner and a Navy Hospital Corpsman, can explain how it works.
  • Medicare GUIDE respite. For a loved one with dementia on Original Medicare, we are an approved respite provider for PocketRN’s GUIDE program, and we help with the paperwork. Here is how GUIDE dementia respite works.

Original Medicare does not pay for ongoing help with bathing, meals or company at home. We are glad to talk through your options on the first call.

Who oversees care in Garden Ridge

Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN, co-owner and Director of Nursing, meets each family at the free in-home visit, writes the care plan and oversees the caregivers who carry it out. After a fall, a new diagnosis or a hospital stay, she changes the plan with you. Troy “Doc” Wilch, co-owner, is a Navy Hospital Corpsman and Marine veteran.

Every caregiver is background-checked, and we are bonded and insured. Assisting Hands Home Care Northeast San Antonio is licensed by the State of Texas, license #023668. Every Garden Ridge visit is scheduled and supervised by our Bulverde office.
