Home Care in Hill Country Village, TX

Hill Country Village is a small city, about two square miles, with a quiet country feel just west of US-281. Homes sit on large lots along streets like Winding Way and Tower Drive, and close to 3 in 10 residents were 65 or older in the 2020 census. All that space can also mean nobody notices right away when a parent starts struggling with stairs, the shower or meals. If you are looking for home care in Hill Country Village, our office is about 15 miles up US-281 in Bulverde. We send background-checked caregivers into homes here for a few hours, overnight or around the clock, with care planned and overseen by our co-owner, Nancy Wilch, MSN, RN.

A small city that kept its acreage

The city traces its start to Village Estates, laid out in 1946 as the first subdivision north of San Antonio, when Winding Way and Tower Drive were its first paved streets. Early residents kept horses and hunted dove on their own land, and in 1956 they voted to incorporate rather than be annexed. You can read the Village’s own early history on the city website.

That layout still shapes home care in Hill Country Village. A long driveway, a gate or a slope between the car and the front door can change how a caregiver helps someone with a walker. We ask about the property at the free in-home visit, so the caregiver knows where to park and which door to use before the first shift.

Home care in Hill Country Village around the places you know

City Hall sits on Aspen Lane, and the homeowners association’s annual Villagefest brings neighbors together each fall. Brook Hollow Branch Library on Heimer Road is about a mile from City Hall, and Voigt Park is next door in Hollywood Park. A caregiver can take your mother to the library or to church, then run errands along San Pedro Avenue and be back in minutes. Small outings like these keep a routine going when memory is changing.

These are the closest ones, with rough drive times from City Hall:

The first days home after a stay like this are often the hardest. Nancy cared for stroke and brain injury patients in the Neuro ICU at Methodist Hospital for more than 30 years, so she knows what those weeks can look like. Call us before discharge day if you can. A caregiver can help with meals, bathing, walking safely and rides to follow-up visits. Here is how help at home after a hospital stay in the Village works.

Paying for home care in Hill Country Village

Many families pay privately for home care in Hill Country Village. Others use a long-term care insurance policy, and our office includes a Certified Long-Term Care Advocate who can help you start a claim. Learn more about using long-term care insurance for care at home.

Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA Aid and Attendance, a benefit the VA pays to the family. Troy Wilch, our co-owner and a Navy and Marine veteran, can explain how VA Aid and Attendance may help pay for a caregiver.

For a family on Original Medicare caring for someone with moderate or severe dementia, we are an approved respite provider for PocketRN’s GUIDE program, which can pay for some respite up to a yearly limit. See how Medicare GUIDE respite for dementia caregivers works. We do not take Medicaid or Medicare Advantage, and we go over costs at the free visit. For free county programs such as meals and caregiver support, contact the Bexar Area Agency on Aging at AACOG.

Before you call: a few common questions

How soon can home care start in Hill Country Village?

Often within a day or two of your first call. The Village is about 20 minutes down US-281 from our office, well inside our regular service area.

Do you serve Hollywood Park and the rest of 78232?

Yes. The 78232 ZIP code is part of our franchise territory, so we serve Hill Country Village, Hollywood Park and the neighborhoods around them.

Do your caregivers give medical care?

No. Skilled nursing or therapy at home comes from a home health agency your loved one’s doctor orders. Our caregivers handle the daily help and can work alongside that team.

How are your caregivers screened?

Every caregiver is background-checked before working with a family. Nancy oversees the caregivers and reviews the care plan with you as needs change.
