Community isn’t something we talk about, it’s something we show up for. Recently, Assisting Hands Home Care of Lombard had the pleasure of sponsoring bingo at the senior centers in Elmhurst and Addison, where local seniors gather at their respective park district facilities for fun, connection, and a little friendly competition.
In addition to calling out the bingo numbers, Mark and Alison took a few moments to talk with the group about what home caregiving is really all about.
More Than Care – It’s Quality of Life

Mark shared an important message with the room: one of the most powerful things seniors can do to live longer and healthier lives is to stay socially connected. Studies show that strong social engagement can add as much as 15 years to your life. Conversation, laughter, and shared experiences aren’t just enjoyable, they’re essential.
Judging by the smiles in the room, this group is doing something right. Mark even commented that he hadn’t seen so many smiling faces gathered in one place in a long time; the energy was truly contagious.
What Home Care Really Means
During the event, Mark and Alison explained that home caregiving goes far beyond basic assistance. While our caregivers assist with tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, personal care, and errands, what truly sets them apart is their companionship and compassion.
We believe that home care is about more than just completing a checklist of tasks. It is about:
- Personal Care: Providing dignified assistance with daily activities.
- Meal Preparation: Ensuring nutritious and delicious meals.
- Light Housekeeping: Keeping the home safe and tidy.
- Medication Reminders: Helping clients stay on track with their health.
- Transportation and Errands: Assisting with shopping and appointments.
The heart of caregiving is the connection, the genuine care for each client’s well-being, that makes the real difference. It is about reducing isolation, preserving independence, and helping seniors continue doing the things they love safely and confidently.
Showing Up Matters
Sponsoring bingo wasn’t about advertising; it was about being present. At Assisting Hands Lombard, we believe that supporting local senior communities in Elmhurst and Addison is part of our responsibility. When we invest in moments of joy, connection, and laughter, we invest in healthier aging.
Sometimes the best medicine isn’t found in a prescription bottle, it’s found across a bingo table.
