Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit
At Assisting Hands Boston Northwest, we’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges veterans face when returning from wartime experiences. That is why we offer assistance aimed at helping veterans obtain the pension benefits they have earned through the VA Aid and Attendance program. At Assisting Hands, we are deeply committed to supporting our veterans, who have made substantial sacrifices for our nation.
Did You Know?
According to VA statistics, there are about 15 million veterans in the U.S. who could qualify for the VA pension benefit.
However, only about half a million veterans are actually receiving this benefit.
Why Aren’t More Veterans Receiving These Benefits?
Lack of Awareness: Many veterans and their spouses are not aware of the benefits available to them.
Misconceptions: Some have been misinformed by the VA or others about their eligibility.
Complexity: The application process is complicated, and many veterans give up after becoming frustrated with the paperwork and lack of clear information.
Who is Eligible?
- The Pension program is exclusively available to veterans, spouses of veterans, or surviving spouses of veterans who are 65 years of age or older.
- Additionally, the veteran must have served in “Active Duty” during a period of war.
- To be eligible for the program, the veteran or spouse must meet specific asset and income criteria, and require regular assistance with daily living tasks to maintain their independence while residing at home.
Potential Benefits:
- Couples (veteran and living spouse): Up to $2,200 per month
- Single Veterans: $1,800 to $1,900 per month
- Surviving Spouses: Around $1,200 per month
These benefits can provide approximately 12 to 15 hours of support each week, allowing veterans to live comfortably at home. Services include:
- Assistance with showers, dressing, and mobility
- Keeping the home clean (vacuuming, laundry, dishes)
- Preparing healthy meals
