Two Assisting Hands Home Care Staff Earn Certified Dementia Practitioner Designations

Award-Winning Home Care Agency Serves Families in Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties

SEA GIRT, NJ—June 1, 2022– To enhance care of families, in Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counites, two of Assisting Hands® Home Care staff have earned Certified Dementia Practitioner® CDP® designations, which are considered a premier standard of Alzheimer’s and dementia care within the healthcare industry. Assisting Hands Home Care is a Sea Girt-based company that provides professional in-home care services to clients so they can remain safe and happy at home.

Gerry Patrizio, Assisting Hands Home Care owner, CSA and Miriam Barroso, RN, BSN, director of nursing, earned the CDP designation from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

“As a leader in home care for those with long-term memory-altering illnesses such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, we take education seriously,” said Patrizio, who is also a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA). “Health care is a career of lifelong learning. We will be sharing the best practices we learned with our caregivers to enhance their skills. Everyone in our office, including our caregivers, are required to take continuing education so we can continue to provide award-winning care.”

Assisting Hands Home Care recently received both the 2022 Best of Home Care® – Provider of Choice and Employer of Choice Awards from Home Care Pulse. It is the only home care agency in Mercer and Monmouth Counties to be recognized with both awards and one of two in Ocean County. This is the third year in a row that the agency has been named a Provider of Choice.

The CDP certification represents that the front-line staff and health care professional has received comprehensive knowledge in dementia care, achievement in completing the Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care course/seminar, met the NCCDP requirements for CDP certification, applied for the CDP certification and received the CDP certification. The CDP commits to ongoing professional development through NCCDP Staff Education Week or other educational opportunities and re-certification every two years.

A CDP certification reflects a deep personal commitment on the part of the front-line staff, health care professional, and the organization’s sense of accountability by abiding by NCCDP ethics statement, inspiring confidence and dedication in an individual’s professional knowledge through quality of life and quality of care provided by the CDP to the dementia patient.
