Watch Our Video on Preventing Pressure Ulcers or Bedsores

May 4, 2023Wolfgang Willems

This video highlights the importance of preventing pressure ulcers or bedsores, a common condition among elderly and bedridden individuals. Pressure ulcers occur when an area of the body experiences continuous pressure, leading to tissue damage and reduced blood flow. The spine, heels, and hips are the most commonly affected areas, but pressure ulcers can also form on other parts of the body.

Preventative measures include a well-balanced diet, physical therapy, and regular changes in body posture. Caregivers should be trained to recognize early indicators of pressure ulcers and use specialized equipment, such as pressure-relieving mattresses and cushions, to minimize the risk of their development.

Preventing pressure ulcers is critical for the health and well-being of patients, and it can be achieved through a multifaceted approach. By educating patients and caregivers on the importance of prevention and early management, discomfort and complications associated with pressure ulcers can be minimized. Assisting Hands Home Care is available to provide free in-house assessments and support for families in Plano, Frisco, Little Elm, Prosper, and surrounding areas in Texas.
