Companionship

Free Consultation: (214) 609-1340

The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that depression is one of the most underdiagnosed conditions among older Texans, affecting an estimated one in five adults over 65. In a city like Frisco, where the pace of life is built around young families and career-stage adults, aging parents can find themselves socially sidelined without anyone quite noticing how quickly it happened.

Assisting Hands Home Care provides in-home companion care throughout Frisco, TX, including neighborhoods near Starwood, The Hills of Kingswood, Hunters Creek, Phillips Creek Ranch, and the areas along Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway. Our caregivers provide consistent, attentive support that keeps older adults connected, engaged, and comfortable in the homes they have built their lives around

How Companion Care Can Help Seniors Living in Frisco Texas?

Companion care is non-medical in-home support that covers two things: practical daily assistance and regular social engagement. A companion caregiver helps with grocery runs, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and transportation, while also providing the kind of consistent human presence that keeps older adults mentally engaged and connected to their routines.

It is worth knowing what companion care does not cover. Hands-on physical help with bathing, dressing, or toileting falls under personal care, which is a separate level of service. Many Frisco families start with companion care and add personal care later as needs change. If you are unsure which applies, that is a straightforward conversation we have during the free consultation.

Companion care is not only for seniors who are struggling. Some of our Frisco clients are largely independent and simply want a reliable presence a few times a week. That regular connection supports mental health in ways that are easy to underestimate until it is gone.

What Our Companion Caregivers Do in Frisco, Texas

Across Frisco, here is what a typical companion care visit covers:

Companionship and Social Engagement

Loneliness is not just uncomfortable. In older adults it has documented effects on cognitive health, physical health, and longevity. Our caregivers are selected in part for their ability to hold genuine, engaging conversations and take a real interest in the people they work with.

  • caregiver reading a book online for senior man at home in Frisco and enjoying the companyFriendly conversation, storytelling, and active listening
  • Card games, board games, word puzzles, trivia, and chess
  • Reading together or reading aloud from books, newspapers, or magazines
  • Watching favorite programs or films and discussing them
  • Participating in hobbies including crafts, gardening, birdwatching, or music
  • Accompanying to the Frisco Public Library on Main Street for programs or browsing
  • Escort to Frisco Senior Center activities and community events
  • Walks in Frisco Commons Park, Warren Sports Complex, or local neighborhood trails
  • Accompaniment to places of worship in Frisco

Errands and Transportation in Frisco

When driving is no longer reliable, the errands do not stop. They just pile up, or family members absorb them. Our caregivers handle transportation and errands as part of a regular visit so nothing gets missed and your loved one stays connected to their community.

  • Grocery shopping at Kroger, Tom Thumb, Sprouts, or Walmart in Frisco
  • Prescription pickup from local Frisco pharmacies
  • Transportation to medical appointments at Texas Health Presbyterian Frisco or Medical City Frisco
  • Drives to hair and nail appointments, personal care visits, and routine errands
  • Post office runs, dry cleaning pickup, and bank visits
  • Sorting and organizing incoming mail
  • Help with bill payment organization and keeping track of paperwork

Meal Preparation and Nutrition Support

Skipped meals and poor nutrition are among the most common and preventable problems for seniors living alone. A companion caregiver makes sure your loved one eats properly and is not doing it alone.

  • Planning and preparing balanced home-cooked meals
  • Following dietary guidelines for diabetes, heart health, low-sodium, or other restrictions
  • Grocery list preparation and shopping coordination
  • Checking pantry and refrigerator for expired items
  • Sitting with your loved one at mealtimes so meals are not eaten in isolation
  • Medication reminders timed around meals

Light Housekeeping

A clean, organized home reduces fall risk and supports a sense of routine and control. Our caregivers handle light housekeeping as a standard part of each visit.

  • Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping
  • Laundry, folding, and putting clothes away
  • Washing dishes and wiping down kitchen surfaces
  • Dusting furniture and common areas
  • Changing bed linens
  • Taking out trash and recycling
  • Caring for indoor plants
  • Light organization to reduce clutter and clear walkways

Companion Care vs. Personal Care: Which Does Your Loved One Need?

This is one of the first questions families ask. The distinction is straightforward. Companion care covers the practical and social support that keeps daily life running: meals, errands, housekeeping, transportation, and meaningful engagement. Personal care adds hands-on physical assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.

If your loved one can manage their own personal hygiene but needs help getting to appointments, staying on top of meals, and having regular company, companion care is the right fit. If they need support with physical daily living tasks as well, personal care or a combined plan makes more sense. A lot of Frisco families start with companion care and add personal care over time as needs change. We build care plans that can grow with your loved one without requiring a new intake process every time something shifts.

Scheduling Options for Frisco Families

There is no fixed schedule for companion care. We build it around what your family actually needs. Common arrangements include:

  • Two to three visits per week for a few hours at a time, for seniors who are mostly independent
  • Daily visits for more consistent support and routine
  • Half-day and full-day care when a family member is unavailable for extended periods
  • Temporary care following surgery or a hospital stay at Texas Health Presbyterian Frisco or Medical City Frisco
  • Overnight companion care for families who want coverage during evening and nighttime hours
  • 24-hour and live-in care when a caregiver needs to be present around the clock

Schedules adjust as your situation changes. If visits need to increase, decrease, or shift days, we handle that without disrupting your loved one’s routine or requiring a new care plan from scratch.

Frequently Asked Questions About Companion Care in Frisco, TX

My parent refuses to admit they need help. How do we even start?

This is one of the most common situations families bring to us. Resistance is normal, especially when someone values their independence. One approach that tends to work is framing the first caregiver visit around something specific and practical, a grocery run, a ride to an appointment, help with a household task. Once your loved one gets comfortable with the caregiver as a person, the relationship builds naturally from there. We can talk through how to introduce the idea in a way that does not feel threatening.

Can companion care help with loneliness after losing a spouse?

Yes, and this is one of the situations where we see it make the most meaningful difference. Grief after losing a spouse often comes with a collapse of daily social structure. The routines that revolved around another person are suddenly gone. A companion caregiver provides consistent presence, a regular visit to look forward to, someone to talk to about whatever is on your loved one’s mind. It does not replace what was lost, but it helps rebuild a daily rhythm at a time when that is genuinely hard to do alone.

Is companion care available on weekends and holidays in Frisco?

Yes. We provide care seven days a week including weekends and holidays. Holidays can actually be one of the harder times for seniors who live alone, particularly when family gatherings are elsewhere. We make sure coverage is available when it matters most.

Does companion care work for seniors in independent living communities in Frisco?

Yes. Companion care is not limited to private homes. If your loved one lives in an independent or assisted living community in the Frisco area, our caregivers can visit regularly there as well. Many facilities welcome supplemental in-home care support.

What areas near Frisco do you serve?

In addition to Frisco, Assisting Hands Home Care serves Plano, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, Little Elm, Carrollton, and surrounding communities in Collin and Denton counties. Call us to confirm coverage for a specific address.

Wolfgang Willems, the owner, and his team at Assisting Hands serving Frisco and Plano are top notch! We have been using them since July 2022 to help care for our mother who experienced life-changing illness in June. Coping with hospitals, insurance companies and rehab facilities has been so emotionally and physically draining on our family and we felt we were caught in a downward, never-ending spiral. Then someone told us about Assisting Hands. We did some research on them and other similar caregivers and finally decided on Assisting Hands. I cannot stress enough how wonderful they have been and how much they have helped our family. They have allowed us to share the burden of care and given us time to focus on the more important aspects of multiple therapies and recovery.

Assisting Hands Frisco is doing a phenomenal job by caring for my mother. It all started with both an easy but diligent intake done by Henny, their care manager. Already the next day after the intake, we had the first caregiver coming to my mother's home. Henny calls my mother and me every week just to keep everyone in the loop. The caregivers are on time and care for my mother as if she were a family member.

Our experience with Assisting Hands of Frisco has truly been outstanding. From our initial conversation, their team made us feel supported, informed, and confident that we were in good hands. The intake with Henny was smooth, thorough, and reassuring, and we were amazed that a caregiver was available to start helping almost immediately. The care plan they developed was detailed, thoughtful, and clearly tailored to our family’s needs.

Henny has been incredible throughout this process — compassionate, attentive, and always proactive in checking in and keeping communication flowing. Megan and the rest of the office staff are just as impressive. They stay organized, follow up promptly, and consistently make sure every detail is handled. That level of coordination and reliability has brought our family so much peace of mind.

The caregivers themselves are dependable, skilled, and genuinely kind. They arrive on time, are well prepared, and treat our loved ones with patience, dignity, and sincere care. We especially appreciate the consistency of caregivers, which has made a meaningful difference for a family member who benefits from familiar faces. Any time we’ve needed changes or assistance, the team responds quickly and professionally.

Wolfgang, the owner, clearly leads by example. His dedication to quality care shows in every interaction we’ve had with the company. The team even walked us through the long-term care insurance process, helping us understand and secure benefits we wouldn’t have known how to pursue on our own.

During what has been a very challenging season for our family, Assisting Hands has provided not only dependable care but also reassurance and relief. Their services are fairly priced, their staff is exceptional, and their commitment to families is obvious.

If you need trustworthy, compassionate home care in the Frisco area, I highly recommend Assisting Hands. They’ve made a meaningful difference for us and have truly become part of our support system.
