Parents taking care of parents

February 11, 2013UncategorizedAdmin

Have you noticed your parents are becoming more forgetful? Not quite as steady on their feet?  Perhaps they just had surgery and are not as they used to be.  It is difficult to take care of your parents when you are a parent and have your own family and work to tend to.  Perhaps your parents live far away. They are fiercely independent and love their neighborhood and home.  What can you do?  Home care can provide the personalized care that fits their needs and allows them to live safely and comfortably at home and at the same time provide you with peace of mind.

“Home care” refers to a wide range of services delivered at home to recovering, disabled, chronically or terminally ill persons in need of medical treatment   and/or assistance with the essential activities of daily living.

If you have already started exploring the home care option, you may have found the alternatives daunting. There are many options to choose from for home health care, including Home Health Agencies, Registries, and Independent providers. How to choose the right home care organization for mom and dad?  What type of services do home care providers deliver?  What is the criterion that defines a good home care provider?   Who pays for Home Care services?  How do I find Home Care agencies?

In the coming weeks we will try to guide you through this maze, discussing the alternatives, contrasting their differences and weighing the pros and cons.
