I still remember the angst my wife and I felt when it was time to go back to work and we needed to hire a nanny. Who's going to love and take care of my child as I would. This is what we all felt going through search for the right people and we knew as soon as we met Marina we'd found the right place.

Even though she was going on a big trip the very next day, she come over and sat with my mom and I. She wanted to get to know my mom, and learn what was happening with her health. She wanted make sure she had the right person on her team, who had the necessary tools to assist my mom where she needed it, but also give her the space she desired when she wanted it.

Marina's team understands the word dignity. And they understand empathy. They realize that many times when they are called this may be the first time someone may have the need to have home care. The search for the right team is hard work. But Marina's team also understands the stress, fear, perhaps even anger felt by the person who needs assistance. This is a loss of freedom and control that for some, can be very difficult. It can bring emotions to light that are unexpected. The experience Marina's team brings in situations such as these reminds you that you have hired not only someone who can be there when your mom is hungry and can make her a home cooked meal, but a professional who has been there before and can help to ease those situations where there's someone who may be scared or perhaps dealing with a sense of a loss of control.

Whoever does the intake will get ALL the details! What they like to eat what they don't. When they like to rest and when they are most active. What's the med schedule? Is there an exercise program? Are there therapists coming in for PT, or Occupational therapy. Once ALL of the details are understood a schedule is made and before you know it, you and your loved one will be meeting your new new caregiver.

My mom was with a wonderful woman who ultimately became her right hand. She was an absolute professional who charmed my mom as well as my sisters and I. We felt lucky to have her in all of our lives. We could be with my mom whenever we wanted. There was no feeling of awkwardness or anything like that. And the amazing part, was when it was time to leave, we didn't have to worry. We new our mom was in the best possible position with that someone who we knew truly cared about our mom and her well-being. You know you've been in that spot when no one answers and the panic starts immediately?? And if we had any questions or concerns we could give my mom's caregiver a call and she'd be there to answer the phone. That alone...I know you get it.

As a post script I'll also include a brief note concerning our insurance coverage. Assisting Hands did a great job of making this part easy for us. For the majority of the time they were with my mom the insurance company was fair and provided the coverage that my mom needed. However there was a very unexpected change that occurred in coverage at one point. The kind of change that makes most of us hate insurance companies....The details are unnecessary, but I want you to know that Marina and her team were staunch supporters of ours throughout the struggles we had with the carrier and we were reminded once again of the true partnership we knew we had with Assisting Hands.

Our family recently engaged Assisting Hands near Palm Beach to coordinate long-term care for my father who requires moderate assistance with various daily tasks.  Marina visited my parent’s home to meet the family, explain her approach, available services and assess my Dad’s needs.  This process was comfortable, professional, and thorough.  Assisting Hands promptly assigned a caregiver.  The services are as agreed, account administration is responsive, and everything runs smoothly.  As a family that is new to the long-term care industry, it’s worth mentioning that Assisting Hands has also been helpful in terms of our family’s adjustment to this stage of life. I engaged Assisting Hands to stay with my wife (who has dementia) in the hotel while I went diving. Not only was I happy with the caregivers so was my wife. In addition the hotel staff commented on how attentive the caregivers were to my wife and how comfortable my wife was with them. This was an experiment to see if I could have some "me time" and still have my wife cared for. I'm so happy I could cry.

My friend in his 80s needed extra care in independent living at Devonshire and contacted Assisting Hands Palm Beach. Thank God he did! He and I were close for 12 years, but with COVID imposing isolation there and where I lived, it was nearly impossible to visit him for nearly a year. However, I did in November and December of 2020 when things opened up some. I met his aides Laurie and Kristy. They were with him from 8 am to 8 pm 7 days a week. I was so impressed with the excellent care they gave him. In April of this year, my friend had to go to the hospital and had to remain there for 32 days, at which time he passed away on May 4th. His family wanted Assisting Hands to be with him during his hospitalization. I visited him in ICU 3 times and observed Kristy taking excellent care of him - his every need! Even nurses in ICU cannot give a patient continuous care. Kristy was there every day from 7 am to 7 pm or when they made her leave. I was astounded at all she did for him every minute and she made him feel so comfortable being with her in his last days. He could not talk from being intubated but she always seemed to know what he wanted. Having had this experience, I have resolved that at my age of 75 now, whenever I need extra help I will call Assisting Hands, and I will tell others to do the same, whether for short respite care or during hospitalization. When my father passed unexpectedly last June, my mother, who had been married to him for sixty years, not only lost her life-long companion but her care giver as well. I was living in Charlotte NC at the time and knew immediately she would need in-home care. Assisting Hands was able to quickly assess my mother’s needs and put in place care high quality care givers on a schedule she required. Not only were they well trained, they were great companions to my mother as well. Each is able to take her to her appointments, cook and serve her meals, help her bathe and dress, and handle household chores. This allows my mother to conserve her strength and her care givers walk outside with her each day. The peace of mind this has given me in this trying time has been priceless. I know my mother is in good hands and has able to stay in her home during this very difficult transition and during a scary time with COVID-19. Assisting Hands has a nurse that is able to handle all the medicine to ensure my mother gets the right dose of all her prescriptions at the right time.
