As we age, falls can become a major risk, both indoors and outdoors. Falls can result in serious injuries and even death due to weaker bones. Fall prevention in geriatric care is essential to provide a safer environment for seniors. While it may not be possible to eliminate all causes of falls, steps can be taken to reduce the risk of falls. These steps include removing unnecessary items from floors, ensuring adequate lighting, and eliminating thresholds between rooms. Encouraging seniors to wear appropriate footwear, use mobility aids like walkers or canes, and participate in regular exercise can also help prevent falls. Additionally, addressing physical problems like sight and hearing impairment and cognitive decline can help reduce the risk of falls. Making sure furniture is solid and grab bars are installed in necessary locations can also create a safer environment. Overall, fall prevention is critical for seniors’ safety and well-being. If you or your loved ones need assistance with fall prevention, reach out to Assisting Hands Home Care for a free in-home assessment in Plano, Frisco, Little Elm, Prosper, and surrounding areas in Texas.
